Eritrea, located on northern Africa fronting the Red Sea, was an Italian colony from 1889 until its incorporation into Italian East Africa in 1936. Came under British Military Administration 1941-1952. Became an autonomous unit within the federation of Ethiopia and Eritrea in 1952, and annexed with Ethiopia in 1962.
