Moshoeshoe II was born Constantine Bereng Seeiso in Thabang, Basutoland
(now Lesotho). He was educated locally at Roma College, Maseru, and in Great
Britain both at Ampleforth College and at Corpus Christi College, Oxford.
He became the first king of Lesotho when the country gained independence from
Britain in 1966. He was twice sent into exile and once deposed, and was killed
in a car accident in 1996.

British colony 1884-1959. Attained full independence in 1966 as a
