The 65 and 120 Reis notes were sold for £1100 plus 20% buyer's premium (about $2157) at Spink's April 12, 2011 London Auction of The Laurence Pope Collection of World Banknotes.

Madeira Islands, located 360 miles off the northwest coast of Africa, belong to Portugal. Since 1976 Madeira is politically and administratively an autonomous region with a regional government and a parliament.
