Front: Kai Londo (1845-1896), great Kissi warrior-king

Londo was trained from boyhood in the art of warfare. Upon successfully defending against invaders, Londo became the supreme ruler of Luawa.

The Luawa State prospered under his rule. Londo built new roads, fortified towns and established a new capital called Kailahun (Kai's Town). He conquered surrounding states in what are now Sierra Leone, Guinea, and Liberia, bringing them under his direct control. His rule was so wise that some foreign chiefs willingly joined the Luawa state as vassals of Kai Londo.
