Apr 14, 2008 - The Bank of Israel announces that from 13 April, NIS 20
banknotes printed on polymer will be put into general circulation via the
commercial banks and the Postal Bank.
From 13 April the Bank will also issue a limited quantity of 1,800,000 polymer
banknotes with a special inscription (in Hebrew) referring to Israel's sixtieth
anniversary. These notes will be available only from automatic cash dispensing
machines that dispense NIS 20 notes. Such machines are available at the
branches of Discount Bank, Mercantile Discount Bank and Otsar Hahayal Bank.

Apr 3, 2008 - The Central Bank in Zimbabwe on Thursday introduced higher
denomination ZWD25 million and ZWD50 million bank notes, as inflation surged
to 165,000 per cent. Until now, the highest bank note in the country was ZWD10
million. But the note's value has been badly eroded by inflation in recent
months, forcing the Central Bank to come up with higher denomination notes for
the convenience of the public.

country's currency because of a flood of fake notes printed by warlords and

Mar 23, 2008 - The Central Bank of Bahrain (CBB) is selling collectible
versions of new 2008 issue of Bahrain banknotes.
The new banknotes, in the denominations of BD20, BD10, BD5, BD1 and BD1/2, came
into circulation on 17 March 2008. Each Collector Set comprises five banknotes
in mint condition in each denomination.
The Collector Sets have been assigned special serial numbers and each
collectible banknote is a legal tender. The unique feature of the Collector Set
is that all of the five banknotes in the set bear the same serial number.
The Collector sets come in a pure leather presentation album. The price of each
set is BD50. A total of 200 Collector Sets are available for sale from tomorrow
(24 March 2008). They can be purchased from the CBB Currency Issue Directorate
at the CBB Building.

Mar 21, 2008 - On 1 April 2008, the Czech National Bank will put into
circulation a new 2008 version of the CZK 1000 banknote, which contains new
protective elements compared with the older versions. The existing version of
this banknote, which was put into circulation in 1996, remains legal tender.
The older, 1993 version of the banknote has already ceased to be legal tender
but is still exchangeable at the Czech National Bank.

offices of the banking services corporation will issue new colour Rs 20
banknote on Saturday (March 22).
The launching of new orange-green-yellow colour Rs 20 banknote is a part of the

Bahrain banknotes in all denominations will come into circulation from 17th
March 2008.
The new banknotes are being issued in the existing denominations of BD20, BD10,
BD5, BD1 and BD1/2. No change is being made to the coins in circulation.
The new family of Bahrain banknotes feature brand new designs as well as new
and improved security features. All five denominations of banknotes are of
uniform size (measuring 154mm x 74mm), which is slightly larger than the

Mar 8, 2008 - Macau to issue new 20 pataca bank notes to commemorate the
Beijing Olympic Games.
Four million bank notes with a face value of 20 patacas will be issued by the
Bank of China's (BOC) Macau Branch in commemoration of the 29th Olympic Games
that will be held in Beijing this August.
The bank notes, which will be in the same colour (purple) as the other 20
pataca notes currently circulating in the market, will be available at all
local BOC branches the day after the administrative regulation is published in
the Official Gazette, whose date has yet to be confirmed.
One side of the note will be a printed picture of the Bank of China Building,
the architecture representing the location of the torch relay of the ancient
Olympic Games, as well as the emblem of the Beijing Olympic Games and a
vertical line that reads "In Commemoration of the 29th Olympic Games" in both
Chinese and Portuguese. The other side of the note will show a picture of the
Beijing Olympic Stadium (also known as the "Bird's Nest"), Macau's Golden Lotus
symbol, and the same bi-lingual print as on the right hand side.

Mar 3, 2008 - Bank Indonesia (BI) is set to issue a Rp 2,000 banknote
(about 22 U.S. cents) and Rp 1,000 coin in the second semester of this year.
The Rp 2,000 bill will be the country's smallest-denominated banknote once the
Rp 1,000 coin takes the place of the existing Rp 1,000 bill.
The new banknote and coin will employ braille, making them more convenient
for blind people.
BI is preparing new designs and security systems to discourage counterfeiters.

Jan 16, 2007 - Zimbabwe will introduce more new notes, including a 10
million dollar bill. The new notes will go into circulation this week, the
central bank's governor said on Wednesday.
"With effect from Friday (January 18), the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe is
releasing the following bearer cheques into circulation: one million dollars
(officially worth about 33 US dollars/22 euros), five million dollars and
10 million dollars," Reserve Bank Governor Gono told a news conference.

notes with new security features in Mahatma Gandhi series.
The new banknotes, which has the letter "M" inset in both numbering panels,
will bear signature of Governor Y V Reddy.

respects to the notes issued in this series on April 27 last year.

Nov 12, 2007 - Bulgarian National Bank (BNB) released a new banknote of 20
leva on November 12.
Size, colour scheme, graphic design and protective elements of the new
banknotes were identical to the previous one.
The innovations were in the anti-copy stripe, the water seal and the hologram
stripe of the bank-note.
The front of the banknote contained the image of 19th century Bulgarian Prime
Minister Stefan Stambolov, while the back featured the building of the National
Assembly and fragments of the Lions' and Eagles' Bridges in Sofia.
BNB released the old bank-note in 1999. The old bank-note would continue in
circulation, together with the new one.

Nov 5, 2007 - South Korea's central bank on Monday announced
the two historic figures to be depicted on new bank notes to be issued in early
2009.
Kim Koo, the country's revered independence fighter, is to have his portrait
printed on 100,000 Won (US$110.07) bills. Kim, who headed the country's interim
government in Shanghai when Korea was under Japanese rule between 1910 and
1945, was assassinated in 1949 after Korea was liberated from the colonial
rule.
Shin Saim-dang, a renowned female writer and calligraphist, is to be featured
on the 50,000 Won bills. Shin was also the mother of Yulgok, one
of the most respected scholars of the Joseon Dynasty (1392-1910).

new series of banknotes on January 1, 2008. The new currency will be known as
strong bolivar. 1 strong bolivar will be exchanged for 1,000 old Bolivares.

first batch of plastic banknotes with face values of 10 Hong Kong dollars on

Besides the new texture, the plastic note has a transparent window with a

May 20, 2007 - Saudi Arabia will issue new banknotes this week
which for the first time carry the image of Muslim holy sites in Jerusalem.
The new notes, the fifth currency to appear since the kingdom was founded in
1932, show familiar images such as that of founder King Abdul-Aziz Al Saud and
Islamic holy sites in Mecca and Medina.
But the 50 riyal note, which come into circulation on Monday, will show on one
side the al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem's old city and the Dome of the Rock, an

May 15, 2007 - Bank of Ghana has introduced new currency
denominations, as a major step in the country's economic reforms.
The new currency is redenominated by setting the 10,000 Cedis to one Ghana Cedi
which will be equivalent to one hundred Ghana Pesewas (the equivalent of

The redenomination exercise is expected to last for six months during which the

The Lifetime Achievement Award was won by Thomas Ferguson, who recently retired as
Director of the Bureau of Engraving and Printing.
The National Bank of Kazakhstan was the winner of the Best New Bank Note Award.
The Best New Coin Award went to the Royal Canadian Mint for the result of its
collaboration with the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation.
Crane's Motion won the hotly contested award for the Best New Currency Feature.
This optically variable feature incorporating a micro-lens array for security
threads first appeared on the Swedish 1,000 Kronor bank note and has recently
been chosen as the primary overt feature for the new US$100.
KBA GIORI won the Best New Currency Product, Process or System Award for
ONE - a complete suite of products from bank note digital design through to
direct intaglio and offset plate making.
The award for Best Currency Public Education Program was won by the BEP for its
$10 campaign. This 'Color of Money' education program for the new generation of
US bank notes was carried out in 24 different languages.

Currency Website went to The Bank of England for its newly-designed website
www.bankofengland.co.uk incorporating what the judges thought were very
effective video presentations and virtual tours to illustrate their bank note
security features.

May 7, 2007 - The Central Bank of Turkey will issue new banknotes,
removing the "New" title in front of the Turkish currency and going back to the
title of "Turkish Lira" as of January 1st, 2009. New Turkish Lira was
introduced when 6 zeros were removed from the Turkish currency started on
January 1, 2005.
May 4, 2007 - The Bank of Ghana has unveiled five new bank
notes and six coins to be circulated from 1st July 2007.
The introduction of the new currency has become necessary as a result of
re-denomination of Ghana's currency, the Cedi, which takes effect on
July 1, 2007.
May 2, 2007 - The Bank of Korea plans to issue 100,000 won and
50,000 won bills in the first half of 2009. Currently, 10,000 won is the
highest denomination of the country's currency in circulation, followed by
5,000 won and 1,000 won.
