Kaysone Phomvihane dropped out of law school to fight the French
colonialists in Vietnam. Later, he joined the Pathet Lao, also fighting the
French. Phomvihane rose to become Head of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party,
and was eventually elected prime minister and president.
