Denmark, located at the mouth of the Baltic Sea, was a great power during the
Viking period of the 9th-11th centuries. United with England and Norway in the
11th century, and with Norway, Sweden, Finland and Greenland from 1353 to 1412
under the Danish crown. Became a constitutional monarchy in 1849. For a more detailed
country profile, see CIA World Factbook on Denmark.
