Party
Lenin was born Vladimir Ilich Ulyanov, son of a Russian civil servant. Young
Lenin became a radical when his brother was hung for participation in a plot
against the life of Czar Alexander III. He became interested in Marxism, and
got involved in student protests. He was active in the Russian Social
Democratic Labor Party, which later became the Russian Communist Party.
A few years after the 1917 revolution that overthrew Czar Nicholas II, Lenin
became the first Premier of the Soviet Union.
