Slovakia, located in central Europe, was part of Czechoslovakia. The Slovaks and the Czechs agreed to separate peacfully on January 1, 1993, becoming two independent countries.
Slovakia joined both the NATO and EU in the spring of 2004 and the Eurozone on January 1, 2009. For a more detailed
