Back to Hyperinflation Banknotes

Transnistria experienced a period of hyperinflation shortly after the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991. The highest denomination in 1994 was 10,000 Rubles. In the 1995 currency reform, 1 new Ruble was exchanged for 1,000 old Rubles. The highest denomination in 1999 was 500,000 Rubles. In the 2001 currency reform, 1 new Ruble was exchanged for 1,000,000 old Rubles.
The overall impact of inflation: 1 current Ruble = 1,000,000,000 pre-1994 Rubles.
