Front: Yeghishe Charents (1897-1937), Armenian poet

Charents was born in Iran, but moved with his parents to Kars where he received his primary and secondary education. He received his higher education in Moscow. In 1919 he returned to Yerevan and worked as a teacher.

Charents wrote prolifically. He published six volumes of poetry and a novel. He was killed in 1937 at the age of 40, a victim of Stalin's 1937 purge of intellectuals.
