Front: Wilfred Laurier (1841-1919), Prime Minister of Canada 1896-1911

Laurier, born in St. Lin, Quebec, was son of a farmer. He graduated from a Roman Catholic college and from McGill University Law School. He served in the House of Commons in 1874, and succeeded Edward Blake as the Liberal party leader in 1887. Laurier became Prime Minister in 1896.
