Kuala Lumpur was the first Asian city to host the Commonwealth Games, which brought together 6,000 athletes and officials from 69 countries.

Front: Tuanku Abdul Rahman (1895-1960), first Yang di-Pertuan Agong (Paramount Ruler) of Malaysia

Tuanku Abdul Rahman was trained as a barrister in London where he was elected first President of the Kesatuan Melayu United Kingdom, one of the earliest Malay nationalist groups. Subsequently, he served in the Malayan Civil Service in various parts of British Malaya. He was later elected first Yang di-Pertuan Agong of independent Malaya in 1957 for a five-year term, but died in his sleep in 1960.
