Front: David Unaipon (1872-1967), author and inventor

He patented a number of inventions including advanced clippers for shearing sheep, the plans of which are portrayed to the right of his portrait.

Unaipon was the first Aboriginal writer to be published and an extract from the handwritten preface to his "Legendary Tales of the Aborigines" is shown.

Back: Edith Cowan (1861-1932), social worker

Cowan was the first female parliamentarian in 1921 when she was elected to the Western Australia State Parliament. She was active in promoting improved conditions for women, migrants and disadvantaged children.

Front: Nellie Melba (1861-1931), famous opera singer

Her efforts during World War I to raise funds for war charities earned her the title of Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire.

Back: Sir John Monash (1865-1931), military leader

Monash was one of Australia's greatest soldiers. He was appointed commander of the Australian Corps in 1918.
